As of January 31, 2020
A new coronavirus is causing an outbreak of respiratory illness in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. WHO declared the new coronavirus outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
- - Avoid travel to the affected area. The Foreign Ministry of Japan cautions against traveling to Hubei Province, keeping the warning level to 3 on four-point scale (effective from January 24.)
- - Avoid non-essential travel to mainland China. The Foreign Ministry raised the warning level to 2 (effective from January 31.)
- The U.S. State Department raised its travel advisory for China from Level 3 to Level 4, citing the coronavirus outbreak in the country. “Do not travel to China due to novel coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, China,”
- - If you feel sick after travel to the area or a contact with a sick person returned from the area, seek medical care. Before you visit a hospital / clinic, call in advance and tell the staff about your recent travel / contact and your symptoms.
Everyday preventive actions (source: CDC) :
•Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
•Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
•Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
•Stay home when you are sick.
•Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
•Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
