Urine Analysis

Urine Analysis

Overview of the exam

Urine is made by filtering unwanted substances from the blood in the kidneys. Urine produced in the kidneys is collected in the bladder through the ureters and excreted through the urethra. Unwanted substances and water are normally excreted from the body through the urine, but for various reasons, other substances are excreted in the urine.
In the urine test of the health checkup, we check whether the amount of erythrocyte, protein, and sugar excreted exceeds the standard value.

u-Occult blood ( - ) (+/-) ( + )* ( 2+ ) or worse
u-glucose ( - ) (+/-) or worse

*: If the urine protein is (+) and the urine occult blood is (+), the determination of urine protein is a determination of "requires detailed examination and treatment."

Abnormal findings (occult blood in urine+, uric protein+, sugar in urine±)

・If occult blood in urine is found

If there is damage or inflammation anywhere in the process from the production of urine to its excretion (kidneys, urinary duct, urinary bladder, urethral tube), red blood cells are found. Examples include urinary bladder inflammation and urinary tract stones. However, in the case of women, red blood cells are also found before and after menstruation and during ovulation.

・If protein in urine is found

Protein is a substance required by the body. Basically, it remains in the body without being filtered. A small amount may be excreted due to intense exercise, etc. However, protein in urine may indicate a problem with the kidney in the process of filtering.

・If sugar in urine is found

When sugar in blood is filtered by the kidneys, it is reabsorbed into the body. However, there are also cases where sugar in urine is excreted without being absorbed by the body. Because sugar in urine may reflect a high level of blood sugar, this finding means that a blood test is required to examine this possibility.

If the result of the urine analysis is “Re-examination / lifestyle improvement required" or "Detailed examination /treatment required” (occult blood in urine2+ or greater, uric protein2+ or greater, sugar in urine+ or greater),

While urinalysis is less invasive and convenient, it is also susceptible to physical conditions such as overwork and excessive exercise. On the other hand, even if there are no subjective symptoms, there are cases such as kidney disease or kidney failure. If urine protein is repeatedly positive, or if it is determined that a detailed examination is required, it is recommended that you consult an internal medicine or urology department without self-judgment to find out if there is a hidden illness.

If you are currently receiving treatment and have a primary physician, follow his or her instructions.
